2027 Pay Raise: Current Projection
Projected 2027 military pay raise range
Based on Employment Cost Index (ECI) trends — official rate announced late 2026
The annual military pay raise is mandated by the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and is typically pegged to the Employment Cost Index (ECI) — a measure of private-sector wage growth. Congress may set a higher rate to remain competitive with civilian pay. Based on current ECI trajectory and recent legislative patterns, a 3–4% raise is a reasonable projection for 2027.

Don't Forget: BAH and BAS Also Adjust
Your total military compensation includes more than basic pay. Both BAH and BAS are reviewed annually by DoD:
- BAH is based on local rental market surveys conducted in each Military Housing Area (MHA). Rates can increase or decrease independently of the basic pay raise.
- BAS is tied to the USDA Food Cost Index and typically increases each year at a different rate than basic pay.
- Combined, these allowances can add $500–$3,000+/month to your total compensation — all tax-free.
